Hello, is this cookie necessary, what kind of cookie is it? It expires 1.1.1970" ? Is it o.k. for EU law?
Thank you ! regards

    Hi abaBAAnNaira ,

The cookie “buttonizer-first-visit” is saved when the setting Timeout is used.
Its purpose is to get the current time when the user arrives on the site.

The timeout function will then check the first visit time of the customer and check if it should do the timeout animation.

"buttonizer-first-visit=;expires=Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:01 GMT;" is a way to delete the cookie.
The cookie is only saved until the user leaves the site.

Please let me know if you need to know more!

Some additional information about this cookie:
This cookie is set by javascript and won't be send to anyone, it won't even be saved inside the database.

It will be stored on the computer of the client to see if the buttons must be shown or not (according to your timeout settings)

No other data then the date and time will be stored inside this cookie and it will not be read by WordPress or any other backend code from Buttonizer. Only the frontend will use this.

The cookie should be okay with the EU law as it's a essential cookie if you use that function, also it doesn't track the users behaviour and the backend of WordPress won't use it.

    Hello again,
is there a setting to switch off the cookie? I do not use the TIMEOUT setting. Checkbox is not checked, but the cookie still appears. In EU Law every cookie has to be explained to the user on the cookie panel ... Thank you ! regards
    Adrian

Hi abaBAAnNaira! I've just merged your new topic with this one 🙂

We do have an information knowledgebase topic about cookies that are set by Buttonizer wich will be improved more in the future. Also, in a new release (within a few months) we'll make sure to re-check all the cookies. We're currently working on a new big release of Buttonizer which will go in beta soon.

Does the following knowledgebase topic help you? https://community.buttonizer.pro/knowledgebase/164-does-buttonizer-sets-cookies-gdpr-eu-law
