"Share your page on..." not working

Hello, I have recently added a button to my site for the purpose of making each page/article shareable by users via sms. The website is primarily used via mobile and the button is only set to show up on mobile, recognizing that desktop users don't generally have sms functionality. Additionally, we have a native app design that utilizes the mobile version of the webpage for easy access and additional functionality such as notifications, etc.

I cannot get the Share on SMS button to work in a mobile browser or in the native app. In the app it won't do anything and in the browser it just opens an "about:blank" page. The results are the same if I set the button to do Share via Email which I did to test the functionality.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy A71 running Android 12 to test.

Is there a way to make the button open the native device's sharing menu? That would allow the user to select any available sharing method from their device.
