I'd like to let you know that we'll make sure to investigate and support GA4 soon 🙂

Does nothing get tracked currently? Or just some bits?

Hi
Does Buttonizer support GA4 now?
For me some button (facebook, instagram) links to "javascript:void(0)". It works for users but GA4 picks up the "click" event with url "javascript:void(0)".

    Hey twosevenths !

Buttonizer should work with Google Analytics and you should be able to track the button-clicks by their name.

The reason we're using javascript:void(0) as URL for these actions is because the actions are generated and executed via JavaScript in the background. But we might change this soon so they are actually using the URL.

For now you should be able to find the clicks within Google Analytics via their Group or Button names, which you can set via the editor. Can you check if you can find these names together with their click-events in the GA interface?

Hope to hear from you soon 🙂

    Cheers,
    Jasper

      Hey Jasper
      Thanks for the reply.

Legacy GA (Universal Analytics) works. I can see the requests being sent in devtool.
However, GA4 doesn't work. No requests were sent in devtool. I can't find any Buttonizer events in GA4
The document only mentions legacy GA. My question is does Buttonizer support GA4?

Hey twosevenths , thanks for the reply! Apologies for my late reply by the way!

I indeed think the knowledge base article is outdated. Sorry about that! We'll make sure these will be updated soon. I also think that Google Analytics 4 unfortunately does not work correctly with Buttonizer at the moment. I have added this high to our to-do list and we will pick this up soon.

Currently we are working on a revamped version of our WordPress plugin so it supports our Standalone version which will probably be released next week (version 3.0). In a few version later we'll introduce our own privacy friendly click and visibility-analytics by the way, so analytics are really high on our list.

I'll update you as soon I have more information.

Let me know if this helps or if you have any further questions/feedback left!

As mentioned earlier, today we have released a BETA version of our privacy friendly button click analytics. Slowly we're rolling this new feature out to more users 🎉

For more information, check out this announcement.

I'll mark this topic as resolved for now as Google Analytics wil be fixed later on too.

        Hi @Jasper

I'm still not seeing Buttonizer events in GA4 report. Is it fixed now? Is there an ETA for this? Thank you.

twosevenths Google Analytics 4 should now properly work since todays update. Can you let us know if you're receiving Buttonizer button clicks in Google Analytics 4 as well?

@Jasper Unfortunately I still don't see buttonizer events in my GA4 console. May I know the event names?

According to this doc, the plugin will first check if the gtag function exists. However when I typed gtag in my browser console, I got "Uncaught ReferenceError: gtag is not defined". Not sure if it's relevant. I use Google Tag Manager to set up GA4, and I'm getting all other events normally so I don't think it has to do with my setup.

twosevenths Hey again, thanks for the update!

In the Google Analytics tab realtime you should see the Buttonizer events incoming. The events are labeled with the category Buttonizer.

Good point, I had not yet updated the docs (I did that just now). Since the update, we now also check for the dataLayer variable on the page. Google Analytics 4 uses this. Buttonizer should track conversions correctly if the variable exists.

I have just checked your, site and I did see that the variable was available on your site. However, I'm not specialized in this and have to ask a colleague that knows how to work with Google Analytics 😛

Jasper thanks! Please let me know if you need any information from our side. I'm really excited to see the events coming it!

                  Hi there,

For our client sites we still don't see incoming events in GA4 from Buttonizer. Is there a guide to check / install this?

                  Thanks for the info.
